About us

Free Rein Horse Rescue have been rescuing and rehoming horses and ponies for almost a decade and have found new homes for hundreds of horses and ponies, who would otherwise have been destroyed or sent to the meat auctions.

Claire is our founder and has been dedicated to rescuing horses and ponies for years. She is qualified BHS stage 3 and lived with and managed horses most of her life.

One of her key areas of expertise is in assessing behaviour issues.

Claire will be undertaking an Equine Behaviour Consultants course this Autumn as part of her continuing professional developmentand she is also a cracking horse transport driver!

Our Mission:

To rescue, re-home and rehabilitate, to provide sanctuary and care.

  • We rescue - we take in neglected, abandoned and unwanted equines.
  • We provide sanctuary - we give a permanent home for equines which cannot be re-homed due to ongoing health and behavioural issues.
  • We rehabilitate - we make a thorough assessment of requirements (behavioural, vet, physio assessment etc) and to work with the horse/pony/donkey/mule to resolve issues in a safe, knowledgeable environment.
  • We educate the public through pony experience days, stable management education, lectures and demonstrations, leaflets and advertising through social media.
  • We re-home - we have a network of contacts, internet, we liaise with other registered charities
  • We educate people in equine welfare - junior pony days, horse management lessons,  attending public events
